(Altin Village & Mine, Nairobi)
Hailing from Kenya the duo of Svenn Kacirek and Olith Ratego works with a spellbinding blend of avantgarde electronic rhythms and contemporary folk tradition of the Kenyan Luo people. The result is what singer and instrument builder Olith Ratego calls "dodo blues".
With the newly released album "Negore" (out on Altin Village & Mine in May 2024), which was highly acclaimed by NPR, BBC Radio and featured on both Bandcamp Daily & Weekly, they broaden their contemplative universe with ten new compositions ranging from introspective to dynamic, but always sounding like ODD OKODDO: Their songs feel like the two musicians are floating in resonance. Sven Kacirek carefully amplifies Olith's lyrical compositions by creating a rich sonic world to dive into, while Olith's lyrics deal with subjects such as love, destiny, and perseverance. The expressiveness of his voice transports these messages in a way that you can grasp them just by listening to their music, even if you don't speak Luo. Additionally "Negore" features two guest contributions by Kenyan diaspora artists KMRU and Angel Bat Dawid.
When ODD OKODDO perform live they tend to reinterprete their compositions and follow to wherever they take them, therefore every concert can be a truly new experience of their songs. Having played Uganda's Nyege Nyege festival and the legendary Kilifi New Year Festival they are now available to tour Europe in spring and summer of 2025.
