(Fun In The Church, Hamburg)
The combination of an undisputed Pakistani maestro of the sitar and a German electronic music producer, and jack of all trades (who also works as a CEO for Hamburg’s legendary harbour bar Golden Pudel Club) might sound odd on paper. But after honing their craft for more than 10 years before releasing their debut album, the stellar duo of Ashraf Sharif Khan and Viktor Marek are now a force to reckon with: Heavy Asian drones and psychedelic sitar jams meet infectious electronic beats on their first full-length offering, the appropriately named "Sufi Dub Brothers“.
Bandcamp made it album of the day, an honour seldomly achieved by an act hailing from Germany.
But it is still best to see these sharp-dressing dudes live in concert.
